Vaucluse Carpentry Package

A carpentry package delivered on a high-end residential project in Vaucluse. The standout detail is the curved aluminium batten soffit, custom built to follow the radius of the steel structure above. Every batten was templated, routered, and spaced to achieve a clean, consistent curve across the full span.

Key Features

  • Additional room to the top floor with curved window surrounds
  • Custom curved aluminium battens following the steel structure radius
  • Template taken directly from the steel to map the exact curve
  • Radius routered onto plywood guide sheets
  • Battens spaced at 25mm for a consistent, tight finish
  • Plywood guide used to router each batten to match
  • Balcony structure with glass balustrade and timber-look soffit

The Brief

The project involved a complete carpentry package, including a top-floor addition and a structural balcony designed as an entertaining space with uninterrupted harbour views. Every detail was executed to match the level of finish expected of a high-end Vaucluse build.

A key feature of the project was the curved soffit detail, which needed to align perfectly with the steel structure. There was no room for approximation. The curve had to read as one continuous line across the entire span.

The Build

We started by taking a template directly from the steel structure to find the exact radius. From there, we mapped the curve and measured from a fixed centre point to lock in the dimensions. The radius was routered onto plywood sheets, which were then used as a guide to router each individual aluminium batten. Every batten was spaced at 25mm and fixed in sequence to maintain alignment across the full run.

The Result

A seamless curved finish that reads as a single, continuous line from below. The battens sit tight and even, with no visible gaps or inconsistencies in the curve. The kind of detail that separates a standard carpentry job from one that's built to the standard the home demands.
